A lifetime's experience of wild and ornamental plants and crops, and giving advice at all levels.
I have been growing plants since the age of four. While still an Apprentice with the Birmingham Parks Department I was in charge of a city park. At Liverpool University Botanical Gardens, (Ness) I was Plant Propagator and then Botanical Foreman, supervising the development of many major features.
As Garden Superintendent for sixteen years for the Dartington Hall Trust, I planned and developed the 35 acre garden, devised and ran a training scheme for school leavers, ran a commercial nursery and landscape department, and dealt with all horticultural matters, home and abroad, for the Dartington Trust.
Advisory work includes reports to the Hudson Committee on OND and HND college programmes, RHS on training young gardeners, rehabilitation of ex-prisoners, disabled and handicapped in horticulture, Dartington Amenity Research Trust and Countryside Commission, Courage (S.West) and St Austell Breweries, South West Water, Probus Gardens Ltd. and Puberclaire - Provence.
Work has been done on many wild life and environment surveys, manning advisory stands at regional and London (RHS) shows, commercial campaigns and garden centres and nurseries.
Since training as a professional horticulturalist I have regularly acted as a Garden consultant, especially with planning ideas, to many private gardens and estates.
As well as the major work with South West Water and their 'Waterwise' projects, I was heavily involved in a project at Puberclaire, Provence, France, where a health centre and large hotel was being developed on the latest eco-technology. NB The Project was aborted due to a serious land dispute.
I have a wealth of experience to call upon, backed by an extensive library and catalogued leaflet and brochure system.
